27 Woodlane club members, led by summer course instructor Sensei Lee Smith, descended on Clacton in the last week of June for the annual Ishinryu open summer course.
Big news of the week was the upgrading of Sensei Lee Smith from 4th to 5th Dan by Sensei Ticky Donovan O.B.E. 9th Dan. This was announced at the very end of week during the Final Bow.
More Grading Success - Ten Woodlane students took the opportunity to grade on the Summer Course and all gained new belts:

Competition success - Woodlane students achieved notable success in the competitive events returning with 17 medals (4 gold, 3 silver, and 7 Bronze) as well as 3 places in the Fun run. .

Tony Spinks was awarded a special course award to recognise his contribution this year. Tony ranthe optional pad sessions along with Gavin Foster.
For various reasons some club members were unable to train at the summer course this year - however this did not prevent them making an appearance and showing support for the club. Thanks toTony Taylor, Laura Holt, Michaela Weber, and Maxine Weber. Plus thanks as always to the family supporters who attended the course.
